Update on our Orca season! We have been going out on surveys when we can, as well as exercising and doing maintenance on the boats. So far, we have seen 3 successful predation events on Gray Whale calves. We have also seen more than 40 different Orcas in all – several different groups! We are getting updated photos for our future catalogue, increasing our knowledge of hunting techniques, among many other studies on these Transient Biggs Orcas. Please enjoy these photos from over the past week! Luckily, with appropriate permissions and social distancing, we are able to continue with our research surveys with a very limited group of volunteers through our nonprofit group California Killer Whale Project and Monterey Bay Whale Watch. This allows us to continue helping the National Marine Sanctuary with Humpback Whale counts to assess the crab fishery, ID Humpback Whales, assess the overall health and wildlife in the bay, search for entangled whales, and to continue our 30 year long Killer Whale research! #mbww #monterey #seemonterey #orcas #killerwhales #visitcalifornia #predation
