“While being quarantined in the studio cave I have been thinking about the friendships and communities that for me have always remained solid. Here are some images of people that I am thinking about, some art I’ll hopefully think about soon, and an old work I'm revisiting,” Gala Porras-Kim. . We invited #GalaPorrasKim to take over our Instagram story for today’s Artists at Home series. Porras-Kim’s practice explores how the history of art is built from remnants and fragments of information from the past. More specifically, she explores how our indexes or records are often flawed or willfully misdirected, and how these gaps and lapses in human knowledge have supported colonialist endeavors and global inequality. Throughout the day, Porras-Kim will share some moments from this period of social distancing, including a recorded meditation work with her as the guide that will follow later this afternoon.
